MS Dhoni is regarded in India like a cricketing icon. He is regarded as the best captain in limited overs cricket. He won the ICC T20 World Cup, ICC World Cup and also the ICC Champions Trophy. Under his captaincy, India looked a prominent side in big tournaments. Words would not be enough to thank MS Dhoni for the heights he has achieved for India. He has developed a team of fit, energetic and athletic bunch of cricketers. But often Dhoni is criticised for his batting skills. Critics have pointed out he has flaws in his batting and lacks technique. Critics have also pointed out in the past, that he hasn’t proved his mettle overseas due to his faulty technique. But the truth is that the wicket-keeper batsman has in fact played a handful of innings outside India under pressure. He has played crucial knocks outside India which is massively under rated.
On the occasion of his 36th birthday running the rounds in social media, here are some innings that shows some of his best innings that has come overseas.
1. 76* vs England, July 23rd 2007
One of the best knock of M.S. Dhoni as a batsman in Test cricket. This innings came at a rather agonizing series against England. It was one of those days in his career when he was making his name as a flamboyant and attacking batsman. But in the second innings at Lords, he showed his other side of batting. He displayed an innings of grit ,determination and temperament. It was not easy for him to play an innings of such level. He overcame all his desires of flamboyance and aggression to draw the test match and level the series 0-0. This would goes down as a personal favorite of mine as well. He didn’t score a hundred but it’s better than any other century he has scored in his career. He faced 159 balls during his 203 minute stay at the crease. Wickets were tumbling down at the other end but he stood at his crease like a stallion and saved India from misery.
