7. India vs Sri Lanka, Kanpur, 1986
For this entry on the list, you have to go quite a long time back. It was the first game of the ODI series. India won the toss and put the visitors on the field and pretty soon, Kapil dev gave India the first wicket. A lively pitch by Indian standards, run scoring was a tad difficult and a 40 run ninth wicket stand saved Sri Lanka for further embarrassment as they ended the innings at 195.
But even the most loyal and optimistic of Srilankan supporters wouldn’t have seen what was going to cook up. India, a batting line-up of the original little master Sunil, Vengasarkar, Kapil all folded out like a pack of cards as India were all out for an insulting 78. And it was Arjuna Ranatunga’s medium pace which they couldn’t handle, giving him 4 wickets.
