10. Virender Sehwag 319 vs South Africa, Chennai, 2008
The emphatic triple century by Virender Sehwag against South Africa yet again made him stand as a dark horse. Sehwag had been in top form since Border Gavaskar series in 2007, where he smashed ample amount of runs. In the very first test in Chennai, South Africa won the toss and straight away elected to bat on a flat wicket. After 2 days of hefty sessions, the Proteas managed to put up a mammoth total of 540. Batting second, India took a lead of 87 runs by putting up 627 on the score board. Sehwag’s ferocious innings had an upper hand over South Africa’s brilliant bowling attack. He studded his innings with 42 fours and 5 sixes in a profound manner. Although the match ended up in a draw, Sehwag created history by hitting a triple century off 269 balls, the fastest ever by any batsman. He also became the 1st Indian to score two triple hundreds, only 2nd after Don Bradman.
