8. Upul Tharanga (Sri Lanka) – 860 runs
After failing to impress last year, Sri Lanka’s experienced campaigner, Upul Tharanga has not only cemented his place in ODIs but has also been honored with the responsibility to lead Sri Lanka in shorter-formats. So far, the 32-year-old has played 22 innings in 2017, accumulating 860 runs at an impressive average of 47.77 with a strike-rate of 89.49. He has 2 centuries and five fifties against his name.
Tharanga had a sparkling start to the year when he smoked 11 fours and seven sixes on his way to 90-ball-119 at Cape Town against South Africa. He was part of only a game in Champions Trophy but then made a strong return in the home series against Zimbabwe. Sri Lanka hasn’t won a single game since he has taken over as full-time captain (8 ODIs).
