Gauti may be out of the selectors’ radar for the time being but that hasn’t stopped him from performing determinedly in domestic cricket. In the course of his time out, he was won two IPL titles captaining Kolkata Knight Riders and had a stellar Ranji season performing on the livelier Feroz Shah Kotla pitch in Delhi this season. Even while in the team, he was a crisis man and stood up on the big days, like his 70 against Pakistan in the 2007 World T20 final that took India to a decent total that they were eventually able to defend, or rescuing India from a precarious position in the 2011 Final with 97 off 122 balls. With age on his side, Gambhir will rather fancy his chances of making a comeback.
