6. Ian Healy
Ian Healy was a world class wicket keeper, a predecessor to the era of Adam Gilchrist. Regular in the Australian line–up in the 1990s, Ian Healy was fondly known for his work ethic and commitment to the team. Selected surprisingly after just six first class games, Healy slowly settled in the side enjoying sustained success with the team. Also known for his energy behind the stumps, his famous “Bowling Warnie” usually heard from the stump microphones. With the onset of Gilchrist, Healy lost out his ODI berth in the 1997-98 season. Playing for 119 test matches, Healy took a world record of 366 catches, later overtaken by Mark Boucher and Adam Gilchrist. When it became clear that the selectors were going to pick Gilchrist over him for the 1999-2000 Ashes after a series of low returns for Healy in Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe, sadly this Australian great had to call it a day. Ian Healy will be most remembered for his total devotion and commitment to the team in a time when the Australian team was suffering from a string of poor performances and helping them thus begin the long chain of successful years for Australian cricket.
