8. Alec Stewart
Alec Steward is the former English Captain who played primarily as a opening batsman and a part time wicket keeper. He has the second most appearances for a wicketkeeper in Test with 133 matches. He also played 170 ODIs for England. Stewart’s greatness lies in his age-defying fitness levels, which can be seen with the fact that he went on to play for England even after his 40th Birthday. Alec swapped the wicket keeping duties with Jack Russell for much of the Nineties before eventually becoming the No.1 choice due to his superior batting ability. Although his captaincy stint started with a series win over South Africa in which England where once trailing 0-1, he was sacked following an unsuccessful campaign against Australia and 1999 World Cup within 12 months.
