9. Farokh Engineer
The First swash buckling wicketkeeper from India, Farokh was as good a keeper as they come. Boasting of a muscular physique, Farokh was very agile and quick behind the stumps. Born in the city of Bombay with an interesting family name of Engineer, Farokh’s career spanned from early 60s to mid 70s. In that time frame, Farokh was the finest of keepers around the globe showing rare talents with bat and gloves. It is said about Farokh that he was ahead of his time, that he would have made a lucrative buy in this IPL era. Playing for India in 46 tests, the flamboyant Engineer played some of the best counter attacking innings one could be witness to, his day in the sun as a batsman came when he blazed to 94 against West Indies in 1966-67 before lunch on the first day . Engineer later played for Lancashire for many years as well in his adopted home of England, also marrying a Lancasterian Julie.
