Border is one of the most celebrated skippers in the history of Australian cricket. When he took over the reins, Australia was in its darkest hour but from there on he turned them into one of the best sides across eras.
His invaluable contribution to Australian cricket is recognized annually as the ‘Australian Player of the Year’ receives the Allan Border Medal. It was under his meticulous captaincy that Australia won its first ever World Cup in 1987. The left-hander was very solid with the bat and accumulated 4,439 runs at an average of 32.16.
