5. India vs Sri Lanka, 10 March 2003
“Srilanka won the toss & decided to field.” Srilanka & Sanath would have never anticipated that this would be the moment where Srilanka will have the most control over the game. Put into bat, It looked a bad day for Sri Lanka the moment things began. Sehwag and Sachin again put on a plus 100 partnership, their 3rd in 10 innings together said a lot back then only. Sachin unfortunately missed out on yet another hundred perishing for 97 to the gentle offbreaks of Aravinda De Silva . With a quick hand from Sehwag and Ganguly and the final push by Dravid, India posted a huge score of 292. The chase by Srilanka was all but derailed at the time of four over with Attapattu & Jayawardene back in the hut. What was left of was taken care of by Mohammed Kaif who took a good catch of Srinath’s bowling to end the run of the Captain. Javagal Srinath with his 4 wickets was adjudged the Man of the Match was India tore their way into the Semifinals.
