This being the first match of the Five match series, It set the tone for the upcoming matches were Rahane & Shikhar Dhawan blew past Sri Lanka with their respective hundreds. The duo put on a 200 run partnership. With Angelo Mathews using all of his 8 bowlers rather unsuccessfully, Sri Lanka were faced with a stiff target of 364. Umesh Yadav along with Ishant Sharma, who managed a four for did the final rituals as the mighty Lankans fell short by 169 runs.
