It’s the Superman from South Africa who sits at the top of the tables here as well. Having developed a cult following around him, leaving nothing out of reach and re writing the history books, De Villiers is the best fielder after Jonty Rhodes from the African nation. De Villiers has also kept wicket, diving till the first slips sometimes to take catches. When in field marshaling his troops, De Villiers on an average saves 10-15 runs from his diving saves and calm catches. It’s hard to find a greater display of fielding by a player when De Villiers ran out an Australian in the 2007 World Cup, with one stump to aim at plus rolling on the field while throwing. This was long before’ De Villiers ‘ became a cult personality in cricket. Many more such efforts in the field, add to that the 350 plus catches and stumping, De Villiers is as good as they (The Fielders) come!
