Nathan Astle, along with Stephen Fleming, formed one of best opening duos of late 1990s and mid 2000s. An aggressive opener, punishing anyone offering a bit of width, Astle holds the record for the fastest double century in Test cricket of just 153 balls. Astle is also second on the list of most dismissals in 90s in ODIs, with 9 such dismissals which he shares with Grant Flower and Sri Lanka’s Arvinda De Silva. If all had gone to his plan, his ODI Hundred tally could have reached a quarter of a century, a truer display of his potential as a ODI batsmen. His last such score was a 90 against the Windies at Wellington in February 2006.
