The inaugural edition of the Times of India Global Sports Business Show (GSBS) 2016 will see The Bhaichung Bhutia Football School, Mary Kom Regional Boxing Foundation, NBA India and Kaizzad Capadia take center stage and foster the trainers of tomorrow
Sports in India is witnessing a radical change with forward-looking reforms being implemented to usher in a culture of sports within the country. The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports in conjunction with the HRD Ministry are playing their part to ensure that India meets its ambitious vision of creating some of the world’s finest sportspersons. These bodies are aggressively promoting the inculcation of sports at a grass root level. Indeed, schools and colleges remain key to the nurturing and grooming of tomorrow’s sports talent pool across the nation.
The coaches of today play a critical role in moulding the nascent talent of budding sportspeople. More than just the stereotypical role portrayed by some or enabling the racking up of points on a scoreboard though, the right coach can help unlock the talent of a budding sportsperson in much the same way as access to the right infrastructure can. The finest of sportspeople down the ages have scaled the summit of their respective sports backed by the guiding hand of some of the game’s finest coaches. Sportspeople and their coaches share a symbiotic relationship, with prime examples of this seen across the sporting spectrum. Sachin Tendulkar and Ramakant Achrekar; Pete Sampras and Robert Lansdorp; Cristiano Ronaldo and Sir Alex Ferguson; P.V. Sindhu with Pullela Gopichand; the list of sporting synergies is a long and illustrious one. Indeed, the best of coaches see the unpolished diamond glinting within an aspiring sportsperson, and it is only after a coach helps a sportsperson tap into their latent potential that they stand glittering on the world stage.
With the intention of building a bright future for the Indian sports and fitness fraternity, The Times of India Global Sports Business Show 2016, scheduled to be held from the 21st to 23rd of December at the Bombay Exhibition Center, Mumbai, has designed a “Train-the-Trainer” programme. The Train–the-Trainer program is targeted to all fitness trainers; school & college physical education teachers; school/college students, sports aspirants, sports Instructors; coaches/ trainers of gymkhanas, federations & associations, gyms, yoga and zumba classes. This initiative will give a fillip to the sports community working passionately towards the collective dream of realizing India’s sporting dreams.
The Train-the-Trainer model enables experienced personnel to guide aspiring coaches and instructor on the optimal ways in which to deliver courses, workshops and seminars. Through training sessions led by the course designer or subject-matter expert, these sessions can be an invaluable tool in building a pool of competent coaches who can then pass on their learnings to a collection of learners. These sessions typically prepare instructors to present information effectively, respond to participant questions and lead activities that reinforce learning and teach instructors on techniques to lead discussions, listen effectively, make accurate observations and help their wards to realize their full potential.
The Train-the-Trainer workshop will be conducted over 3 days in a dedicated zone, with intensive sessions designed to turn participants into top-notch facilitators.
