3. Joe Root (England) – 1,477 runs, Ave: 49.23
The English no.3; Joe Root ended the year with 1,477 runs, the most by any batsman this year. Root has proved his Test match credentials over time and again and this year the 25 years old did no harm to his reputation. Root’s career best knock of 254 runs came against Pakistan at Manchester in a winning cause.
While his centuries in Johannesburg and Rajkot were reflection of his adaptability and solid technique in foreign conditions. The only downside about Root in 2016 has been his conversion rate – he could only convert three of his 13 scores of more than fifty into a century.
