4. Steven Smith (Australia) (C) – 1,154 runs, Avg: 50.17, S/R – 89.18
The Australian skipper; Steven Smith is the second highest run-scorer in ODIs, this year. In 25 innings, Smith accumulated 3 centuries and 7 half-centuries. The right-hander endured a special love affair with opening matches in Down Under. He compiled big scores of 149 and 164 runs in opening matches of home series against India and New Zealand respectively. The first one came while chasing a total of 310 runs with Aussies reeling at 21 for 2. While the second one was against New Zealand in which Smith scored 164 out of team’s total of 324 runs, to set-up a winning total.
But more than his batting, Smith made headlines this year when he left the Sri Lankan ODI series in between to prepare for South African One-dayers. Interestingly, South Africa whitewashed Australia in that series. It was Australia’s first ever whitewash in ODI history.
