Often known as the god of cricket, Sachin Tendulkar will get the highest civilian honour of the country, Bharat Ratna on February 4th. Sachin will receive this prestigious award at the Rashtrapati Bhawan in New Delhi by President Pranab Mukherjee. After 24 long years of cricket, the maestro retired on 16th November last year. He is also a Member of Parliament in Rajya Sabha. The Rashtrapati Bhawan announced to give Bharat Ratna to Sachin on the day he retired, making him the first sportsperson to get this prestigious award.
Tendulkar, who hanged up his shoes before playing 200 test matches will get this award along with scientist Professor CNR Rao. Many controversies were there when the Rashtrapati Bhawan announced Bharat Ratna to Sachin, because sports wasn’t a category at first, then many believed that Hockey Legend Dhyan Chand should have deserved it. Few also disagreed on this nomination. An official statement also said “That he has been honoured with several awards is testimony to his extraordinary brilliance as a sportsman” Bharat Ratna was last received by Legendary musician Bhimsen Joshi back in 2009.
